I just put a new 80gb drive into my Dell optiplex 150 as the drive failed.
Now it keeps coming up with a blue screen mentioning "unexpected kernel
....." preceded by what looks like memory addresses. Another message flashes
up but before I can read it the machine reboots. Happens after the machine
is on for about ten minutes. Until that point, it works fine. Tried the
maxtor diagnostics and it checks out ok.

I have tried an old 20gb drive I have and that works fine, but the new drive
just refuses to play. Anybody have any clues what can be causing it?

Thanks
John

The friggin' MaxBlast software that comes pre-installed
on the drive.

Lots of other people have reported problems with it...
you do NOT need it.

FDISK the drive from a DOS floppy if you
can to get rid of it.

Then do a clean install.

You can turn off the auto-reboot under My Computer>>
Properties>>Advanced>>Startup & Recovery to
see better what's going on.

I formatted it from scratch and installed win2k. I have spent today
reformatting and installing. Am now backing up after every software
installation and testing it. Running ok so far, but seems something will
conflict eventually.
