Having added a Maxtor 6 Y080L0 and using the Maxtor
utilities to format/partition I now find that while it works
great, but using Grisoft's AVG it does not appear to
scan the new drive, any ideas.

Using W98SE it this makes a difference.

right click on the AVG icon in the system tray
select Run AVG Anti Virus
click Service
click Complete Test Settings
add the new drive letter(s) in the "Test Files in" box

Thanks but the problem disappeared when I had removed
the original small 6.4 HD.

Though, I did have another problem in that after running the
new HD a Maxtor 6 Y080L0 on a CMD PCI-0649 Ultra DMA
IDE Controller with the old HD still connected to the Socket 7 MB,
but both set as Master, in that the new HD was running very hot.

Likely just because the drives were mounted adjacent to each other.

Nothing to do with the jumpering.

Thanks, I have been running the PC for the last 24 hours
without the drive overheating problem recurring, so I am
unclear as to why it did it the first time. I have now disconnected
the original Seagate 6.4gig which was in a separate section
on its own.
