I have an old 1394 HD, and wanted to replace the meager 80GB HD with a
200GB HD. Is this possible? Do I need to format the drive before the
swap? Will the controller recognize the full drive?

Anyone else who's done this, appreciate the feedback.

You'd be much more likely to have success with a 120GB drive. Once you
go past 137GB, you're in the 48-bit LBA arena and must have specialized
hardware for it.

The enclosure has a bridge board, most likely with Oxford 911. That supports
ATA-5, up to 137GB.

Only the newer Oxford 911+ and 922 supports ATA-6 and larger drives.

Thanks for your feedback -- I tried pinging Maxtor about this a few
times, but to no avail.
