From reading this group both are pretty bad. My personal experience
is that Maxtor ir reliable only if coolde well.

WD is about 30$ more expensive.
thing is, the store where I bought my machine will change the Maxtor
(which is what I have now) for the WD for free, and copy everything.

This because they made a mistake and installed Maxtor and charged me
for WD.

Trying to decide if it's worth the hassle of wasting a couple of hours
going there and have it changed. If not they'll refund the difference.

I prefer Samsungs to both myself.

Maxtor has just gone bust, bought by Seagate
who may well be just killing off their competition.
Lousy reliability unless you cool them aggressively.

WDs arent that great reliability wise either, and have
a stupid jumpering system if you dont use cable select.

Samsungs are nice a quiet and do fine without
special cooling and are decently reliable.

Seagates have a longer warranty, 5 years,
but are too noisy and get to hot for my taste.
And some models dont do that well reliability wise.

I'd get them to change the drive myself. Mainly because
Maxtor has gone bust and has a lousy reliability record.
Thats basically why they went bust.
