Hello --

Using Win2000 (build 2195 SP3), Belkin usb2.0 4-port hub, IBM T-20 laptop.

My 120GB has been working fine in this configuration for several years. It
no longer does.
Device Manager shows USB symbol below an exclamation point/yellow circle
symbol. The power light (right-most of 2-light indicator set) is
illuminated.

A 40GB version of this drive works fine from the Belkin hub, as do other USB
devices: mouse, scanner, 256 Mb flash drive, and floppy drive.

The 120 was powered on for approx 14 hours/day since purchase. Besides
that, I have recently been removing it from the system to take to client
sites, being careful when removing and replugging the USB and power cables,
and careful to prevent mechanical shock.

Can anyone suggest what component of the 120 might be broken, and what steps
to take to confirm, and then, fix, the problem?

I can't figure out how to open the case, thinking that I might first
substitute the interface components from the 40.

Thanks for any help.

Your first step is to download & run the free diagnostic
program that Maxtor make available on their home site.
