maximum size of gif file for 2003 outlook stationery

I would like to ad my own artwork as a background on outlook 2003 stationary.
I see that either a gif or jpg format is acceptable but I can not find the
proper size needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which proper size? There are no restrictions, why do you think there is?
Of course there is a practical limit for clarity and message size but that
depends completely on the gif-file or jpg-file itself.
