Our school system uses an Access database to hold records
for volunteers in the school system. I would like to know
what the maximum size is for an Excel file--filesize max
and total records maximum. I have searched for days for
this on MS Knowledge Base, but have not used the correct
phrase yet--I guess.

Thank you!

Search the help file for the word 'specifications'.

Access 97 has a maximum file size of 1GB, later versions 2GB, there is no
limit on the number of records.

Maximum number of open documents is limited by available
memory and system resources
Maximum sheet size is 16,384 rows by 256 columns for a
total of 4,194,304 cells per sheet.
Maximum number of sheets in a single workbook is 255
Total number of possible cells is 1,069,547,520 if your
computer has enough memory in it.
Column width is 0 to 255 characters. Row height is 0 to
409 points
Maximum length of cell contents (text) is 255 characters
Maximum length of formula contents is 1024 characters

i appear to be a fountain or useless information

cheers
Chris

The posted figures look like specs for one of the earlier Excel versions.
Even with XL97, the max worksheet size is already 65,536 rows by 256
columns.
