I had 2gig of ram in my system and I just aded 2 more. All of the modulesare
of the same size and make Geil/4x1gb. When I boot, my bios sees the 4gb(16gb
supported by MB) but windows recognizes a crazy size of 2.87gb.
Any Ideas?

From a forum:

"Well, unfortunately...it may have to do with the fact that Windows can
only see 4gb of ram period...system ram, and virtual ram. Since you have
4096 of system ram, and your pagefile is on...you've passed the Windows
memory limits. Remember, Windows sees the pagefile as system memory.

The only solution you could try to get Windows to see all of your ram, would
be to shut off the pagefile. "

It has to do with the way Windows "sees" and "maps" the first 4 gigabytes of
physical ram. I don't know if the number 2.87 is exactly correct but I have
heard that Windows only uses a subset of the 4 gigabytes of ram to run
programs. The rest is used for system stuff. The 4G limit comes from the
number of address lines used which is 2 to the 32 power or 4,294,967,296 to
be exact.

Check the knowledge base or some of the recent posts here. Part of that is
due to the fact some hardware uses part of the memory so you don't get it
all.

I have exactlly the same situation, a system with 2 GB of RAM was upgraded to
4 GB, 1GB per slot. All match. System will only report 2.87. Try removing or
dis-able PAge File and no change, the system still sees 2.87 and on task
manager the same amout is report, it apears as if the System can only handly
up to 3 GB of RAM. I have looked at KB articles but no conclusive report on
this particular subject.
