HI

I have problem with my W2K TS. I want to connect to my server about 30 computers, but my Server just allow 8 computers simultaneous. My server is a Dell Power Edge 1600 with dual Pentium Xeon 2.7 Mhz, 4Gb RAM, 120 SCSI with 1 Giga Pro network card. These 30 computers will have to access an application trought this server. What can I do to it's work? I need it too much

Tks & Rg

What do you mean with "my Server just allow 8 computers
simultaneous"? Is this a licensing restriction? If so, add more
server CALs. Check in Control Panel - Licensing applet.
Or do you see a performance decline after 8 users (but then, it
surely depends on what they are doing)? Please post some more
details.

I think I have a similar problem in my company.

My company has about 20 employers. Some have one desktop,
and some have one laptop more. So we have to buy a lot of
CAL per post.

However, the simultaneous active sessions at any moment is
less than 5. In other words, some of the "scenarios" is
like this:

1. someone is logged in from computer A, then disconnected
and reconnected from another computer B but back to his
own session. So, though he's using two or more CAL, he's
actually using one session.

2. someone is logged on, doing something and logged off.
Another user is logged on and doing his thing. In this
case, two or more CAL are required to use one session
(under different login name).

The point here is that CAL per post or CAL per user
aren't adequate for companies like mine. The worst is
that Win2003 is using its own licences and I have to apply
for another set of CAL.

Seak, in Windows Server 2003, Terminal Server there are Per-User CALs & Per-User TSCALs for situations where you have more computers than users, i.e. 75 named users logon from any of 225 workstations but only need 75 User CALs & 75 User TSCALs

Yes, we have more computers than users. But how about
the situation where we have more users than active
sessions?

Summary:
computers > users > active sessions

TS Licensing is not for concurrent users or concurrent devices, it's for named users or named devices, so if you're licensed per user, one user can have any number of sessions (disconnected or active) and still use only one TSCAL

This option is only available in Windows Server 2003
