It appears that there is a maximum no. of characters you can place in a
cell. Or is there.

I have elongated a cell and I am using it to enter text, but at a certian
point no matter what I type it does not appear in the cell, is this because
of a maximum
no. of characters in a cell?

If so how do I increase the number.

I have considered using a text box, but when I protect the sheet you cannot
enter anything in the text box.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards Bill

Hi Bill
the maximum is 1024 characters (though all characters are shown in the
formula bar). You can extend this length if you manually insert some
line breaks with ALT+ENTER

Hi Bill
Right click on the BORDER of your text box and goto Format Text Box. On the protection tab , leave Locked checked, and uncheck the Lock Text box. Now when you protect the sheet the text will not be locked
