Hi,

Can anybody point me to some resources that specify how many OUs/containers
one can create, and what the maximum name lengths are? I have already tried
to search google/microsoft for some specs but was unable to find any.

Thank you,
Ingmar.

Hi Chris,

Thanks, that means that I can even create 500 OUs, one beneath the other??
:-)

There's gotta be some sort of limitation or am I wrong? Anyway, thanks for
the reply. If you have a link to an official document that would be nice!

Hi Florian

No It doesn´t. The maximum OU nesting level is 64 from the LDAP root. Which
means that if you have a domain named mycompany.com you could nest 62 in
each other when you try to add the 63 th you will get an error.
But the practical level is much less and it mainly depends on how many GPO
you have link the your OU´s. And the more levels the "harder" it gets to
administer.

Yes :-) Well the Active Directory Database will grow of course so you need
space for your structure. On the pages below you will find a Official
Documentation Organization-Unit Class and the Organization-Unit-Name
Attribute.

Organization-Unit Class:

Organizational-Unit-Name Attribute:
