maximize windows

Right click on the shortcut, select properties and in the Run: window change
it from Normal Window to Maximized. Or stretch the window to full size
using the mouse and then click on File and then Close. Works for OE, IE and
Windows Explorer.

I'm having the same difficulty in getting a new window to open maximized

For desktop icons, I can set the run maximized option and that works
For Internet Explorer, there is no such option
So... what I'm trying to do is to get a new window that is opened from IE via the open in new window selection to open maximized. Since the object will be different each time I do it (different URL for example) the scheme of using the windows resizing followed by File - Close doesn't seem to work.

I had it once but due to a problem that was partially solved by reloading Windows XP, I lost the setting and can't remember how I set it in the first place (over a year ago)

any help will be appreciated.

Do not use the maximize button. Grab the corners of the window and
drag it to full screen size. Close the program using the red X in the
upper right-hand corner. The next time you open the program, Windows
will remember the last screen size used.
