One program, at least, Internet Explorer, will not remember Maximized. The suggested
workaround is to expand it by dragging to the largest size you can and then close it with
<ctl-(X)> (the (X) meaning the window quit button. With luck, the window will keep opening
to that size even if you have changed it during a session.
I haven't tried this on other programs, but let me know if it works. I am not fond of
maximized (it makes my hidden toolbars inaccessible).
There is a program called Actual Window Manager which offers considerable control over
windows (opening, closing state; transparency; roll-up; minimize to an icon; etc. All on a
program-by-program basis. I find it really helpful. Check it out at

: Thanks for taking time to answer, but I had tried that already. Problem is
: it is not remembering the settings. The support people here now believe it is
: a registery problem, but really are just guessing.
