Maximised window is offset

While browsing around normally, I noticed that my IE6
window shifted to one side. Thinking I had hit
the 'restore' button I pressed it again. I then realised
I had not but the window was actually maximised but not
in the centre of the scree.
Now whenever I maximise IE6 the window is offset by about
3/4" from the top of the screen, meaning I can see about
3/4" of my desktop at the top of my IE6 window, and I can
not see the status bar as it is off the screen.

Any ideas why this would be and more importantly how I
can get it back where it should be?

Hi Pete,

This may help:

When you have this display showing, right-click the relevant button in the
taskbar.
From the dropdown menu choose "SIZE".
Use the arrow keys or your mouse to re-size the display.

Good Luck.

Pete,
Reset Browser Window Size:

Close all instances of Internet Explorer except for one.
Right-click on a link in the page and select: "Open in New Window"
Close the first browser window using the [ X ] (upper right corner)
Resize the second browser window manually by dragging the sides to the
desired size.
Note: Do NOT click the Maximize button, you *must* do it manually.
Hold down the Ctrl key and click the Close button (upper right)
Visit another web site, open a link in a new "window", it should now be the
desired size.
Note: some pop-up browser windows will alter this process if that is the
last one closed.
If that occurs again, you now can resolve this problem.

[Exception]
In some cases the "Remember last window size" info becomes corrupted in the
Registry.

From: http://www.fjsmjs.com/IE/offpos.htm

Symptom: IE opens a maximized window shifted down and to the right.

Remove any 'Auto-hide' option for the Windows taskbar and while the window
is maximized, resize the taskbar then return it to the desired size. This is
to try to make Windows re-calculate the window size and boundaries.

If no joy, run regedit and remove these registry key values:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\window_placement

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Desktop\OldWorkAreas\OldWorkAreaRects

Then reboot.
