Does anyone know of a tried and tested way to upgrade the tiny 40GB
HDD's that come with these NAS boxes?, bearing in mind there is no way
to change partition size with the maxneighbourhood software that is
bundled with the box.

The 3000 also came with two 80GB drives, so the hardware definitely
supports it. I have one of these units. I have no idea about the
upgrade, although it would be nice to have twin 200GB drives in mine!

Post here if you find anything!

I don't have a MaxAttach 3000. But I think you could load a linux on it to
use large hard drives.

I have a Netgear ND508 they only came with 1 8 gig or 20 gig hard drive. I
put a 200 gig in mine and it works super good. I had to load www.trustix.org
linux on the 200 gig hard drive in a PC that had with the same type network
chips as in the Netgear, Realtek. When I put the drive in my Netgear it
booted right up. I can use samba and SSH on it to do thinks like update it,
"swup --update".

My guess is you could load this linux on a PC with the same type network
card that's in your MaxAttach 3000. Then just put the drive in your
MaxAttach 3000 and it should boot up and work and see the all of the large
formated part of the hard drive. I am sure you could stick a 2nd drive in
there then and use it.

When you install trustix use LILO boot not LBA32 when it ask you. Because I
am sure the Netgear's BIOS would not
support it. Same with a MaxAttach 3000 I guess.
