All my opinion in this post but I've been playing MP3 a few days now and I think it's the shiznit. If you liked any of the previous 2 MP games then you'll like this a lot. It's not as quirky as it's predecessors but just straight down the line realistic action.

The shooting mechanics are superb and the slo-mo mode is a lot of fun. The game has had criticism in some quarters for being an interactive movie and there are a helluva lot of cut scenes but in Max Payne 3 it works, the cut scenes don't detract from gameplay, they actually add to it, making the whole game experience very enjoyable.

But I'll say this - it's not easy. I'm playing on the easiest setting and I still manage to die a helluva lot. There are 16 chapters but it's not until you reach chapter five that the difficulty level is ramped up. There have been a couple of instances where it must have taken me at least a dozen tries to get past certain stages but a big tip here is - don't forget to use the slo-mo mode when things get hectic, I have mine mapped to the middle mouse button. Also use the Q key for cover mode a lot, that helps.

All in all I'd say if you like fps's then this one is pretty much a must. At time of writing it's fifteen quid on Steam. I've just started chapter six so I'm very sure I'm going to get my money's worth with this game, I've already clocked up five hours play time.

If you're playing it, please post your thoughts and comments here.

Have only played an hour or so, but yes i agree. i actually like the way it moves between cut scene and gameplay. :thumb:

Up to chapter 7 now  Almost gave up though tbh, there's this part towards the end of chapter 6 where you have to escort/guard this young guy to the server room in a bank and it took me at least twenty tries to get past it. And I had actually run out of ammo so to take down the last guy I had to get close to him and press fire which means you club him to death with your empty weapon, which is cool in a violent kind of way.

In chapter 7 the story line takes a dramatic turn for the change, there are twists and turns you're not expecting. I think this is possibly the first game I've played where I'm enjoying the story as much as a book or a movie.

But - will I have the mettle, nee - the tenacity - to make it through to the end? Have I that much patience? That much gaming skill at my age? We shall see but for now I'm loving it :)

I started playing it a little tonight, found out I had to wait out the current cut scene when I wanted to leave, otherwise all I could do was pause it. :)

Glad your lovin it Mr Flopp's :D
I played the original back in 2001 and thought that was great then, you got me thinking about this one now!

Aye, as I said, lots of cut scenes (that can't be skipped) and the first one is very long indeed. Normally that would irritate me but in this game they're so well done I didn't mind at all.

Crazylegs: I'd say go for it, it's still £15 on Steam until 20:00 hours today. Bear in mind though that it does get hard but if I've managed to get this far then probably anyone can ;)

btw, thanks for the card, brought a big smile to my boat race when I arrived home on Wednesday, cheered me :)

You taking the rise mate?

I'll have you know I'm a big toughie, me. Homies in my hood fear me, the descendants of the Richardsons and the Krays respect me and I have a nice little black market scam going on involving illicit sales of home made still lemonade.

And I gotta spud gun too.

At the end of chapter 9 there's this awkward bit where you have to take down a guy with a machette.

Using keyboard/mouse I tried over and over and could not defeat this part. So I used Xbox 360 controller where onscreen prompts to buttons made more sense and I breezed past it.

Which means I'm now on chapter 11.

Just passing on a tip/info :)

btw, just to verify, I looked at a coupla walkthroughs and there are only 14 chapters, not 16, as I originally thought.
