Hi all;

I dont know if I'm posting this in the right forum...

I'm using FP2003 to build a training manual. It is getting rather large.

The "reports page" shows 1,260 files, totalling 21megabytes, and 8,250
hyperlinks.

Is that large for a FP2003 website? should i be concerned I might be
hitting a limit any time soon? I'm only 1/2 done...

Thanks.

It's large but I've seen larger. The problems come when you try and publish
a site that large. The best way is to break it into smaller sub webs so
it's easier to publish but you can keep it all in the root if you'd like.
As far as a limit, that depends on how much space your web host gives you.

when you say "The problems come when you try and publish a site that large"
.... will it be frontpage thats having the problems? does frontpage have a
problem publishing large sites? or are you just talking bandwidth problems
transferring large amounts of data?

thx.

The problems publishing a very large site depends on the server
hardware, server loading and network connection. These usually occur as
server time-outs.

A server running 1000 busy websites on a Pentium 2 with 256MB RAM will
have problems when publishing a half dozen files over dialup; at the
other extreme a dedicated server (1 website) running on multiple Core 2
Duo XEONS with 28GB RAM should have no problems with 1,000,000 files.
