I was wondering if there was a way to set a maximum folder size in windows xp.
Example: Max folder size: 300 MB in total (for all users) (if folder is
full, no one can put any more in it)
Let Me Know

Look up Disk Quota in Help, or online and see if it's compatible with the
way you work. AFAIK that's the only way but there are likely 3rd party apps
too though I don't recommend them.

I think that will not solve your problem because you cannot set limitation
to system folders like Windows, system32.... If you do then it can even
result in a situation window not loading and if you do not set limitation
in system folders, anyone can make their files and folders there to bypass
the limitation.

Hi all

I think disk quota settings would be my chosen solution. Of course, there
are other things to consider as well to make it watertight. (Correct me if
I'm wrong, anybody?)

If you set a disk quota for a user on a Windows XP system, that user must
not be an administrator on that system, otherwise it is possible for such a
user to create files somewhere other than in his or her profile. I'm not
sure if Power User priveleges would result in the same... Anyway, you can
set up a test user, do the experiment for yourself and share your experience
with us here, yes?

Makes sense; I think it's the best way to go also. And it's pretty easy to
set up; it's just adding a number for the user's quota. I have a strong
dislike for using 3rd party programs for things XP can do on its own and try
hard to not recommend them.

That said, a Google search for
3rd party disk quota
without any quotes or +'s, turned up a few viable looking alternatives but I
cannot recommend any of them. Perhaps finessing the search further would
help but I was just doing a quick check to be sure there would be lots of
hits; there was.
