Master - Title Slide Confusion

I'm guessing this question has been answerd, but I'm not finding it. I'm
confused on how a master & title slide work. I have a Master and I want to
add a Click here for Title box. When I put it on the Master its there but
when I use the master it's not there for me to edit. If I go into the Master
I can edit the title but again it does not show up when I close the master
display. So how to I crate a master that has graphics and a Title that will
allow me to Click to Edit and have it all show up by choosing the design
template? PP2003

Thanks
John

You must use the built in slide layout formats. When in Master View, click
"Format", "Slide Layout" to bring up the desired design. If you want a
Title Slide and your existing design does not have one, click "Insert", "New
Title Master" and it will have the textboxes you wish. You can format,
move, and resize them but you can't create your own placeholders.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Bill,
What I'm trying to do is set up a Master and/or Template that has a Place
holder that when I edit it, it "sticks" to all inserted slides for that
presentation. For example the Master has our logo on the top left. On the top
right I want a place holder so that when accounting creates a ppp they enter
Accounting in the place holder and all new/added slides have Accounting
entered in the place holder on the top right. When Sales creates a ppp they
enter Sales and all new/added slides say Sales. Not sure if this is possible
or not?

You cannot add placeholders to the Master slide in 2003 (should be in 2007).
If you want text to appear on every slide, add the text in a text box.

Thanks Rea,
I know I'm just doing something dumb. This is what I do:
Open a new blank ppp
Select View - Master - maste stuff displays
I delete the opject area for for auto layouts
I modify the Title area - insert a log and shorten the title box
I leave the date , footer, number boxes
I close the Master -
My image is there but the click to edit master title style is not visible
Click to add title and Click to add subtitle is now displayed
I delete the subtitle
I drag the Click to add title to a new location - right of the logo
I save this as a design template pot
I close the pp
I restart pp - this step is not necessary I know but I do it anyway
I start a new pp
Switch to Slide Desing and brows to my new template
My logo ppears but so does Click to add title and click to add sub title
Type sometthing in the title
Add new slide
Image appears but so dose a new click to add titlle and text

I guess what I don't understand is what is the purpose of the Click to edit
Master Title style, datetime, footer, number? They aren't there when I apply
the pot to the new file.

All I thoght I was doing wsa making it easy for myself to crate a unique
title for my ppps that would apply to all slides in the current ppp. I've
been reading other posts and it's starting to sink in that I can't get there
from here. Wha I really don;t understand is why MS lets me make these edit to
the master if it's not going to let me use them?

I tride the above porcess with deleting the master title and addng a text
box with the same results. The text box is in the mast but does not appear in
the ppp when I use th pot its associated with.

Thanks much.
John

The Master slide is where you set up the size/ font so that all the slides
look the same, ie you don't have to set the size and change the font on each
slide. You can also add pictures, clipart, logos and they will appear on
every slide, as will text added to a text box (generally inserted through the
Drawing toolbar). The Master slide looks like the bullet slide, but shows the
various levels of bullets so you can set the font you wish and the type of
bullet (Format | Bullets...).

Where it gets confusing is there is a Title Slide which, when you use the
designs looks a little different to the bullet style and is normally used for
the first slide in a presentation but you can use it anytime. You don't need
to delete the sub title frame as it won't show if there is nothing typed in
it. Stay with me now! There is also a Master Title Slide so you can set the
font and size and maybe a bigger logo etc just to be different/interesting!

When you are setting up the Master slide, click in the title space and then
set the font and size you want, then click in the bullets one by one and
select the font and size for each. If you want text to appear on every slide,
then click on the text box on the Drawing tool bar, click in the slide and
type - the box will expand as you type. When you're done, close the Master
slide and each slide now should have the settings of the Master, the logo and
the text you entered in the text box(es).

Hope this helps clarify things.

If you want a standard textbox on each design, you will have to create your
own textbox in the Slide Master and enter "Place text here", but the user
will have to go into the Slide Master to enter the desired text. Then every
slide that uses that slide Format will have that text. The only other
option is to create several templates with each department's info in that
box so they can start with that design.

I realize this is confusing (for all of us at times) so if you want to send
me a sample to look at , send it to:

There are two master slides in every different master. The first slide is
usually a title layout and this layout only is controlled by the title master
which may not be visible in the master view! On the master toolbar click the
second icon (add new title master) and it will appear. Add your logo to this
slide (as well) and move the placeholders if you need too.

Thanks All,
Your responses were helpful. Implemented the edit text box in the Master for
the short term while I get a better understanding of the other processes you
all deescribe.

Thanks
John
