I have a cd drive and a dvd drive how can I tell which is the master?
Seems like you ought to be able to find this info in the
Device Manager, but I could find no reliable means
of doing so...
Most computers let you press some special key when you're
booting in order to go into a low-level program that lets you
view BIOS settings. Amongst those BIOS pages is often
one that reveals what IDE devices were detected and
which are master/slave. If the word "BIOS" is not familiar,
then have a care -- you don't want to accidentally change some
BIOS settings and reboot.
If you have full documentation for the drives, then you can
yank them out and examine the jumper settings to
see how each is configured.
Hard to say which route could result in more damage
to the computer if you should spazz out at the wrong
moment.
