master boot record

i am hoping that somone on this site will be able to help
me out.

several weeks ago i tried to upgrade windows 2000 pro to
windows xp pro it didn't go like i had planed i know
little about my pc but now my hard drive has messed up

to fix this proble i borrowed my mats hard drive and
loaded his windows 2000 up i began to install windows xp
but and on completion found that my master boot record is
stored on his hard drive whilst the widows xp install is
on mine so now i can't run my harddrive without his
harddrive it posses a problem since he needs his hard
drive and i need it to are there any suggestion as how i
can solve this problem?
 
Hi robmann,

Remove his drive, boot your WinXP CD, run the Recovery Console. AFrom the
command prompt, run fixboot.

If Windows is on D: then he's going to need to run the repair install to
fix this.
