Hello folks,
I've been struggling to install a standalone vehicle DVR with an HDD. In the past I've also had the problem with a Plug and Play Oregon AC2K action camera, that should have been straight forward by connecting the cam via a usb port. The a standalone DVR I am connecting to the computer via usb and wizard (I think) recognises the Device as Mass Storage, but eventually states that it did not install properly.
I have installed the CD-ROM and I suspect that I do not have the necessary drivers as in the following picture

It appears that I do not have "DevicePath"
I would be most grateful if someone could advise me?
regards
Paul

And when you click on "CurrentVersion" (fourth from the top), as seen
in your picture, what items appear on the right ?

So anyway,I was just following the advice laid out by smlunatick on here
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/software/aspnet/29422995/usb-driver-missing.aspx

That is some good detective work :-)

The quotation in question, may have come from Uwe Seiber's web site.

http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbtrouble_e.html

"XP asks for drivers

XP comes with drivers for USB mass storage. If it asks for drivers then it cannot find them...

Where to search for drives is stored in the registry. Start the Registry Editor
(Run -> Regedit). Check if under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
the value 'DevicePath' points to '%SystemRoot%\inf'. Additional items, separated by semikolons,
are ok but '%SystemRoot%\inf' has to be one of them.

http://www.uwe-sieber.de/gif/devicepath.gif

Then delete the file C:\WINDOWS\inf\infcache.1 - XP will recreate it.
The INF folder and the infcache.1 file are 'hidden'. To see them in
the Windows Explorer: Menu 'Tools' -> 'Folder Options'
Tab 'View', mark 'show hidden files and folders'

If it still doesn't work after a restart, the files in C:\WINDOWS\inf might be corrupt.
An Windows repair install helps then.

Another thing to check is if the values 'FactoryPreInstallInProgress' and
'AuditInProgress' are set to '1' under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup
and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Factory . They should be 0 or
non present."

The "semikolons" reference is what gives it away. :-)
