Mass storage device USB - problem!

So I've Windows xp professional SP2 on a P4 3.00 with 2 IDE disk's
(total=200g) plus a USB external disk (300g), yesterday i cleanup my pc
(format, etc) and when i plug in the usb disk start the normal operation "new
hardware found" and then a message that a problems occurs saying "...the
device cannot be started" The usb disk is fine i already tested o another
computer..i really don't now what happen now.....


help?!

based on the "format, etc" statement, I'd say you haven't got all your
drivers and updates loaded yet.

Not sure if you found a solution to your issue yet, but I've had a similar
problem happening for 2 different causes..

the first one was that sometimes, another USB device (in my case a printer)
would interfere with my USB DVD-RW.. even just reading from the device would
stop after a while if the printer is on (still does, so I turn off the
printer when I'm not using it).

The other issue that caused an issue with detection AND usage, was the USB
polling I had changed from 1 ms to 5 ms (to test). This is something I
recomment to avoid for high speed USB devices (DVD, HD). YOu can check it
with tuneXP (or perhaps other tools I'm not aware of).. in tuneXP 1.5, make
sure that

Hardware->Increase USB Polling Interval is set to Disable. (Disable is
greyed out.. it means it's selected in tuneXP).
