To keep the electricity from leaking out, my wife used to
apply masking tape to our only kitchen electrical outlet
on counter after she unplugged the toaster. I know how to
handle the crank so it won't rip your arm off when the '19
Dodge backfires when you start it, but I'm slow with
computers and could use some help.
I'm able to VPN connect my Windows 200 Professional home
remote computer to my office Windows 2000 server but am
unable to see any office folders except "printers"
and "scheduled tasks." I'm trying to use my office files
from home but cannot get any further.
READING FROM THE "PROPERTIES" FOR THE REMOTE CONNECTION:
As user "Sam" I dial-up my ISP from my Windows 2000 home
computer (computer name: SAM) and connect with a Virtual
Private Network to the IP address of my computer at my
office (computer name: SAMOFFICE). I get "prompted for
name and password, certificate, etc." and "use secure
password." The remote specifies that the server
is "automatic" rather than "PP2P" or "L2TP." The PPP
settings "do not enable LCP extensions" and do
not "negotiate multi-link for single link connections" but
do "enable software compression." THE TCP/IP properties
show that I "obtain an IP address automatically" and
also "obtain a DNS server address automatically." For
advanced TCP/IP settings, the "append primary and
connection specific DNS suffixes" and the "register this
connection's address in DNS" checkboxes are checked.
The "WINS address, in order of use" is the static IP
address of my office computer. "IP security" is selected
as an option but "do not use IPSEC" is also selected.
AT THE OFFICE, two computers' NIC cards are plugged into a
Netgear router which is connected to a DSL modem which is
connected to a phone line. The two computers talk to each
other in a fully-functioning and working Local Area
Network. One of the computers (named "SAMOFFICE") accepts
VPN connections, and allows "Sam" to connect. The
server "specifies TCP/IP addresses" with a suitable
range. All of the computers (home and office" have
a "WORKGROUP" but no "domain."
I would be very appreciative of any help and assistance,
as I'm lost trying to understand "layering," "packet
filters," "demand dial interface," "RAS and IAS security
Groups," "Active Direcory," assorted services, etc.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
