Masking and overlaying

I suspect that MM2 cannot handle this, but who knows...
I have some great footage of a friend twirling in the
breeze in her wedding dress, but with family and other
accessories in the background. I would like to somehow
select the bridal figure, a mask around her with a fuzzy
or fogged edging to her image would be fine, crop out the
mums and dads, and overlay her onto a more pleasing
background i.e. perhaps something abstract like clouds or
leaves or water or similar.
I tried playing around with long (full clip-length) fade
transitions but that wasn't good as it just muddied the
two clips in their entireties.
Any ways to do any of this, or am I looking for too much
from good ole freebie MM2?
Thanks

Hi CW,

That sort of thing is relatively easy in the MovieX range of products
from AIST (Link on my site) Off the top of my head I am not certain if the
free version (from my site again) will do it...the method is easy....you
make a grey scale image where the centre is total black and it feathers out
to white...you use that as a "Mask" for the video you want to do the effect
on...the result is that the centre is perfectly clear but the outside edge
is transparent. You alter the shape of the circle to an oval or something
similar so that you catch the majority of the bride......most paint packages
will let you create something like that. The top of the range MovieDV 6
comes with the tools built in and at US $69 its pretty smoky. (Don't go
buying it until you have had a play with the free version, it requires more
input than movie maker which has just about all decisions made for you)

Many thanks, John, that does sound like it would do the
job - as u suggest, I'll have a play with the freebie
version and see where I get to.

Hi CW,

Yes, its a much steeper learning curve...well it was for me at least...but
once you get behind their way of thinking it gets quite interesting.
Earlier today I put a demo on my site called Weather its in the Video
section of course...it shows one of the tricks you can pull with a plug in
module

John -
Well, I went to download MovieXone, but I have been
distracted for the last couple of hours cruising your
site and having lots of fun!! The clusters and DMA stuff
struck a chord as I had those very problems a few months
back and you helped me then with much of that advice.
However.... maybe you're working on the site at the mo??
Sorry to say I found that several bits didn't load for
me: I didn't get to find out whether or not I liked the
Links, as none appeared! I tried to let u know via
Contact Us, but that page didn't load either... lots of
frames with red Xs, that was the best it cud do for me.
Will try later perhaps.
Oh yes the Weather video did run, and certainly the
effects towards the end were very realistic.
And then I ran the footage of JK himself.
Hmm, come to think of it, I believe it was subsequent to
that that none of the other pages would load properly.
(only yoking...)
All the best

Hi there,

Yes, I am trying to find out exactly what is wrong myself....I thought it
was my system at home and have just re-booted...I will have to dig deeper.

Thanks for letting me know...it helps out a lot.
