This is as result of permissions, please ensure you are logged on as an

a.. Open up control panel and double-click on add/remove programs.
Select Microsoft AntiSpyware
Select "Change"
On the Microsoft AntiSpyware Maintenance Wizard, click next.
On the next screen (Microsoft AntiSpyware Maintenance Wizard) select Update

Select Install
Let the product update.
Click Finish.

I am always Administrator ;-)
What user will use VMware? ;-)

I have tried your tip before I have posted my question. It doesn't help.
Even I can see this 101 problem on more machines that before. Whatever
it is XP or VMware XP.

As Andre mentions--being an administrator is crucial, but there may well be
more to this.
I have this running in a VPC, but under Windows 2000 Pro.
