I am new to Word 2003. When I had Word 97, I could drag the mouse
across several words to mark them. If I started dragging in the middle
of a word, the highlighting would automatically go to the end of the
word. This was very convenient.

Now with Word 2003, the highlighting does not automatically go to the
end of the word. Is there an option I can select to make this happen?

Tools | Options | Edit: "When selecting automatically select entire word."

Interesting. I personally would find that inconvenient; however you have the
choice :)

On the occasions when you DON'T want to select the whole word, you simply
hold down the ALT key whilst making the selection.

Interesting, but I still think it would drive me crazy.

I find it makes marking fast and accurate, particularly when I am
editing a lot of text.

Thanks to everyone for your help. Thanks also to TF for that Alt key
trick.
