Hello All

How does one mark the CF as Non Removable? Simple Tech my supplier said they
can do it at manufacturing before delivery, I have heard about a utility
that can do this but Simple Tech said that they do not have one from Renasas
(???). The Tech there said that one can use XPe to mark the CF as a No
Removable card but we have not seen how to do this.

Cheers

Hi Paul,

I know that Sandisk has a utility that will mark their cards as
non-removable.
Contact Sandisk to request their utility.

I don't think there is a utility, but marking the CF as non removable is a
manufacturer specific thing.
Who at simpletech have you dealt with?
There are posts on this subject you should review (try using google to
search)
I am currently buying Transcend but have the utility for the Sandisk.
To get the Sandisk you have to sign an agreement after contacting:

I have talked to Michael Moorman at Simpletech, the tech there who passed on
the information to him is Hooshmand Torabi.
Here is what he passed on to me.
There's no need for a utility to use the card in IDE mode. These cards can
be used as an IDE device simply by being hooked to an IDE interface. If they
are using WinXP / XP embedded they might want to put it in Fixed mode rather
than removable mode, but again that is not a requirement for IDE mode. Is
that what they're talking about?

IDE vs PCMCIA may boost the performance in some cases as the overhead of an
external of internal PCMCIA controller is eliminated.

So what I am looking to do is put the CF in Fixed Mode as opposed to
Removable. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
