Through various versions of OE and now Windows Mail I've used the "mark all"
function to show a particular newsgroup's postings as read, and added the
icon through toolbars/customize. Maybe it's wrong, but this is how I keep
my place with busy newsgroups.

I noticed in beta 2 and not sure about subsequent versions, this would often
crash Vista, especially with a lot of headers to mark as read; it took too
much time and the CPU zoomed to 100%.

Now in the released version of Vista I wonder if this function is really as
it should be. Yes it works, and does not crash Vista, but it still takes
much longer at times than OE ever did, and sometimes even briefly gives the
"dark screen of UAC" with brief lockup and CPU all occupied, but it only
lasts a moment; Vista does not crash; but it seems to be a big thing for the
program to do this.

I'm using Ultimate on a (old?) Sony 3.2 ghz, 2gb RAM, and other than this
one function, I really can't tell any difference in speed between Vista and
OE; I can't tell any difference in any speed between XP and Vista since I
added the 2nd GB of system RAM.

Thanks - Bill Halvorsen

sounds like you may need to compact more often.
have mine set to 5 instead of the normal 100.

Thanks, I'll try this! Sorry it took so long to see your response.
