Margin issue

I opened a word doc today and instead of the margins measured in inches they
are being measured in pts. - how can I change this back? I don't know how to
do my margins in pts.
 
Select Tools > Options > General tab. In "Measurement units", select Inches
and click OK.

In case of Word 2007, you will find the option here: Office button > Word
Options > Advanced category > View group > Show measurements in units of:

Are you sure they are points. This is often a symptom that you have Asian
Language support enabled.
 
Prior to Word 2007
