Mapping Network Drive?

I have a home network that is setup with a Linksys Router on a DSL
line. It had been working fine, but I had a problem and had to
reformat my C Drive (I have a harddrive that is partitioned in 3
drives - C, D, E). This is on my desktop. I have a Laptop that I
have set to share the E drive on the desktop.

But after reformating, when I attempt to map the E drive to Z (as I
had it set before) it keeps telling me it cannot find the E drive. The
E drive is available to all of my applications and in MYComputer, etc.
But I can't get the MAP to work.

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks for any suggestions.

You need to "disconnect" the mapped E drive from the laptop's config
and then "browse" the network to re-locate and re-map it. Most of the
time, you you repalce the "mapped" drive PC, XP does not re-detect
that this is the same PC (somhow.) You need to redo the mapping.

You cannot in any case map a drive to a drive, you can only map a share to a
drive. Thus, if the root of E: isn't shared, you cannot map it.

You could instead try subst e:\ z:

Thanks for the reply. I disconnect the mapped E drive on the laptop.
Then tried to map the drive and still received the message that the
drive was not found. I tried to "browse" for the drive during the Map
process, but the browse did not show any drive. Maybe I have
something set wrong on the desktop where I set the E drive in Sharing
and Security? When I partitioned the drive and created C, D, & E, I
gave the E drive a name of Charlie3 - so in Sharing and Security, the
drive is set as "Charlie3 [E]". Could this be causing the problem?

I still wonder why the "browse" in in Mapping does no show the shared
drive?

The E drive is on the desktop and I have it set in "Sharing and
Security" for the drive to share as following:

Under "Network Sharing and Security" for the desktop E drive;

Share this folder on the network is checked
Share Name: Charlie3 [E]
Allow network users to change my files is checked

Then on the laptop, I attempt to Map the E drive to Z as it was
before, but it keeps saying it cannot find the drive.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Just so you helpful guys don't waste you time on this anymore, after
weeks, I finally resolved my problem. I now have the laptop mapped to
my desktop E drive. I am back in business!

Thanks for your assistance.
