Mapping a shared folder across the network

Hi

After installing XP and SP2 I am no longer able to connect to a shared
folder across the network.
Example

I am in Denmark, logged on to a server in France. On my computer in DK I
have a shared folder and I want to copy some stuff.
Earlier I was able to go to start > run and write
\\computername\documents\xxxx

Now I get an error that the specified file and folder is not existing.

Strange :-)

Fiel and printer sharing is enabled in the SecurityCenter/Firewall.

How are you connected? VPN? Leased line?
Can you ping <computername> successfully ?
Can you open \\computername\documents (or any other share) ?

Hi -

I can ping succesfull. It is not a VPN connection.
It is on one of our servers in another country - so it must
be the adsl line.
On another computer, still running W2K it is not a problem :-)

A leased line/point-to-point connection?

Sorry my mistake - it is a Cisco VPN connection.
I can't \\computername\d$ or \\computername\ anything...
Trying to do so I get this error...
No Internet provider accepted the given network path

Can you use

\\IPaddress\share?

If so, it's probably a name resolution problem, which is not uncommon with
VPN connections.

Who manages this network for you? I'd think they'd be the best place for you
to start asking for help, given that they know what your configuration is,
rather than in here where we all have to guess and go back & forth.....

HI again,

no it doesn't work with the IP address either.
We have a consultant sitting next to me at the office twice a week and I
already
asked him. He doesn't understand why it isn't possible and keeps saying it
should be.
So he is not much of a help :-) So I thought I would ask here.
