I have a shared Linux server with static IP. My home computer is Windows
2000 Pro connected to the Internet via DSL. How do I map a folder on the
server such that it appears as a drive on the Win2K box? WebDAV is not
available.

You need to install and configure the Samba service on the Linux box. Once
that's done you should be able to map drive from the W2K computer.

Is that the only way? I don't have root access to the server.

If the server does not share out it's folders using the "Windows-protocol"
(which means Samba on Linux) then you won't be able to connect to it using
that protocol. If server has NFS installed you might be able to do it, but
I've never tried it.
