Mapped Network Drives Cause Explorer to Hang.

Recently a lot of our win2k machines have been hanging for
up to 2 mins when trying to open a drop down list of
drives.

In particular when you open my computer or any save as /
open box in any application.

I believe this to be related to the network drives as with
them all disconnected all the drop downs work 100% every
time.

I read a little into it and understand that it may well be
related to the index service. More and more machines are
now starting to do the same thing so if anyone has any
advice i would be most grateful.

Thanks in advance

Paul.

If you run

net use

from a command prompt, are any of the drive mappings pointing to
inaccessible servers/shares?

What he said. Mapped drives that are not accessible will cause this effect.
We hit it when we had drives mapped to our AS400 but the users were
canceling out of the mapping prompt for credentials because they didn't want
to use that drive that day. We gave them a desktop shortcut to map the drive
when they need it.
