Hello,

I have MS Access 2002 on my local computer. I am trying to open a DB
from a mapped network drive. I get the following errors (see below).
I already looked at the Knowledge Base and group email replies and none
of them are helpful b/c I do not have the DB on Internet Explorer. I
have it on a mapped Network Drive. Also, there is no "unblock"
function if I click on properties.
------------
1st Dialogue Box:

Open File - Security Warning
Unknown Publisher
etc.

2nd Dialogue Box (after I hit "ok" on the 1st Dialogue box)
Microsoft Access cannot open this file. This file is located outside
your intrante or an untrusted site. Microsoft Access will not open this
file due to potential security problems. To open this file, copy it to
your machine or an accessible network location.
--------------
Question:
(1) Am I having this problem b/c MS Access is not installed on the
mapped network drive itself? How do I install it there?

(2) Please give me a solution. Copying it to my computer and using it
works but it does not fulfill my needs to make it accessible to other
people.

Hi,

I have read through that web link and am confused by it. However, I
added the following IP address under the Internet
Options:Security:Local Intranet:Sites:Advanced (see below)

file://xxx.xxx.xx.xx

but no luck. Same error.

I really don't know what else to do? I don't need an ACCESS program
installed on the mapped network drive, do I?

No you don't need Access installed on that mapped drive.

Just add the machine to the trusted sites, not by IP address but machine
name
i.e.
\\servername\path
or just
\\servername

This would be the UNC servername for your mapped drive.

Hi,

What is the easiest way to figure out what the UNC servername is? I
only see IP address.
Thx.

If you open Windows Explorer and right-click on the drive letter and choose
properties, does that show you the UNC?

Or open My Network Places and find it via the network - that'll show you the
server name at least.
