I have three Windows XP workstations (SP1 & all updates
installed) connected to a Windows NT 4.0 SP6a Domain
Server via TCP/IP (NetBIOS enabled). The three XP boxes
each have 4 mapped drives to the server. Upon initial
login, everything works great, but if a user doesn't use
the mapped drives for a short period of time (say 10 or 15
minutes) and then tries to access one of them, the
following error occurs:
"An error occurred while reconnecting M: to \\SERVER\ADOBE
Microsoft Windows Network:
The local device name is already in use.
The connection has not been restored."
If I then try to access the server via My Network Places
the following error appears:
"\\SERVER is not accessible. You might not have
permission to use this network resource. Contact the
administrator of this server to find out if you have
access permissions.
Insufficient system resources exist to complete the
requested service."
I can access other workstations just fine, but nothing on
the server. I also have Windows 98 workstations connected
to the same server and they behave normally. If I either
reboot the workstation or simply log off and then log back
on, the mapped drives reconnect and I can access them
again without issue.
I've searched the Knowledge Base and have adjusted the
Autodisconnect setting, turned off the Web Client Service,
turned off all power management, changed network cards,
and run through a slew of other troubleshooting
techniques - all without avail.
Has anyone else out there experienced this issue? Any
other ideas?
