Hello,

One user got problems with a network share, which is mapped to P:\ with a
simple login script: net use \\computer\share$
He is one of the 20 people who use the same script.
Only at his computer, he can’t she that mapped drive P:\.
But when he types P:\ with the Explorer or My Computer, then he can access
that drive.

On Dutch forums I found more people who got the same problem with Windows XP
Pro. But there wasn’t given a solution.

I think it isn't a Persmission setting.

Who can help me out?

Martin,

Please expand upon "he can’t she that mapped drive P:\". Exactly what is he
doing, and exactly what error is he seeing?

How does he "type P:\ with the Explorer or My Computer"?

Is he the only person observing this problem? Is everybody else successfully
accessing P:? Do they all access the same files and / or folders?

What system is providing the P: share (OS name, version, SP level)?

All the 20 persons got the same access rights. When he opens My Computer the
there is no drive called P:\ (it's added in the script), 2 other mapped are
showed like it has to be.

But when he types in the address bar: P:\ all files are listed.

There is no error message.

Server specs:
Windows 2000 Server Advanced sp4

(I hope you understand, my english it not that good.)

Martijn,

Your English beats my Dutch. ;-)

Let's see what the browser situation on your LAN is.

The Microsoft Browstat program will show us what browsers you have in your
domain / workgroup, at any time.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305

You can download Browstat from either:
<http://www.dynawell.com/reskit/microsoft/win2000/browstat.zip>
<http://rescomp.stanford.edu/staff/manual/rcc/tools/browstat.zip>

Browstat is very small (40K), and needs no install. Just unzip the downloaded
file, copy browstat.exe to any folder in the Path, and run it from a command
window.

For more information about the browser subsystem (very intricate), see:
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188001
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=188305
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winntas/deploy/prodspecs/ntbrowse.mspx>

Please provide browstat information for the problem computer, and for two
working computers.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "browstat status >c:\browstat.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\browstat.txt in Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is
NOT checked!, copy and paste into your next post. Identify each computer by
name and operating system.
