I have an odd problem with a connection to a local server share
(mapped drive) dropping. When attempting to use the drive (for
example to save an open file I'm working on) I often get a pop-up that
says:
An error occurred while reconnecting R: to \\server\share
Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use
The connection has not been restored
I don't actually have a problem saving the file(s), it works normally.
However, if I look in the Windows Explorer the network drive icon
for this drive almost always has a red "X" on it... and that message
always pops up.
I have 4 other connections to the same server from the same client
(different shares) that never have this issue. I use this
connection/drive repeatedly during the day. The network is very simple
with a win2K server (no DC) and matching user/password authorization
at login time. Hardware between the two is only a single switch... and
all the other connections between these systems stay up anyway so I
don't think there are any hardware issues.
Ideas ?
