Is it possible to manually edit the contents of a cell
with a formula in it by overriding the formula, without
permanently erasing the formula?

If X99 initially contains =YourFormula, but you need it to evaluate to 987 at
the moment, try changing it to =N(YourFormula)*0+987. If, by override, you mean
being able to enter some other value and thus replacing the formula, then you'd
need to have saved the formula somewhere else and should use a macro to recover
the formula when needed. Provide more details for more specific answers.
