Is there a way to manually compact the data base in Mail? All I see is the
option to change the number of "runs" before it compacts automatically. You
could manually do it in OE.
Thanks,
Bob

The only way to do it at the moment is to set that number to 1 and then
close WinMail and then it will compact and then you have to set it back
again.

I don't think compaction is as big an issue as it was in OE, as the messages
are not in the database files any longer, so there is less bloat.

I'm not complaining because the new email store is much more robust but
there is a lot more bloat than with OE. The email store is much larger than
OE if you use newsgroups. Compacting often reduces this somewhat.

Sadly I find more bloat with WinMail.

I use WinMail only for newsgroups and the size of the database is 62 MB.
The same newsgroups on OE have a database size of 1.7 MB!

Well, I meant the file bloat is not due to messages being in the file. <G>

I've looked at the database design in the file some, and its a bit overdone
and overly redundant. The database organization definitely needs work.

I wish that bloat was my only problem. I seem to be stuck in an endless loop
of incomplete "Compacts" with "Mail" restarting.

This is due to the Execution Protection feature of Vista and it can't be
shutoff when using "Mail".

Suggestions?
