Oyy!

I'm as new to networking as anyone can be. I'm fairly
certain I've run all the right wizards. My wireless laptop
can access the internet and my desktop has normal access
through the router.

But for the life of me I can't figure out the file and
printer sharing. I have enabled all for sharing, yet i
can't figure out how to access anything.

Is there a book on this that someone can recommend? I'm
sick of jumping all over the internet.

The Running of the Wizards is a bit like the Running of the Bulls:
famous, noisy, and sometimes leaves a street full of residue.

I don't think any single book will solve all of the problems you
might encounter, with different OSs and different types of
hub/switch/routers tied to different types of DSL/DUN/cable; and,
new hardware/firmware/software/patches appearing every month.
So, I'll give you pointers to some sets of notes:

- A basic tutorial on routing for a home network:
http://home.comcast.net/~bobwbsgs/homenet.txt

- A good site for Windows XP network troubleshooting tips:
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/troubleshoot

- Adding Windows XP to an Existing Network
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/xp/addxp.htm

- Another site with WinXP networking tips:
http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm

- A good site for basic networking info:
http://www.wown.com

- Cisco's handbook on networking:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/cisintwk/ito_doc/index.htm
