Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to update spyware
signatures manually without using automatic updates
feature. I use a computer which doesn't have internet
access. Would it be possible to download the signatures
file separately from another computer and patch it??

Hello Johny

From Mikolaj Kaminski

Please clean the temporary folders (usually C:\Documents
and Settings\username\local settings\temp and
c:\Documents and Settings\username\local
settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 and delete
all the files in those directories and subdirectories).

There is a manual update procedure. Follow these steps:

Right click on MSAS icon within systray and choose
shutdown.

Right click and "Save target as..."

Copy/paste these files to Program files/Microsoft
Antispyware

Restart MSAS and "check for updates"

If the http:// does not work, try https:// instead..

I just used this manual update, and it worked really well to fix a problem
with repeated signature definition updates at the same level. Just Replace
the files currently in the MSAS folder. I think it would work off the net
as well, as I didn't need to use the final check for updates step. Just
Restarting MSAS repaired the definitions and got me out of that loop.

Hello,

why ?
because you have not internet access and the problems
comes thru the internet...

Why? Well my reason is that I have to scan a friend's pc
for spyware but I have no internet connection available
at the place where I have to scan it.

English is a fun language... I think he's saying that the computer normally
has an internet connection when the friend uses it, but he is trying to run
the actual scan for the normal user in a place where he doesn't have that
connection, and therefore, can't download to update the signatures... But
who knows... it's English!!!

Well download these then and overwrite into MSAS folder
