Afetr installing Service Pack 4, my system will no longer
boot into Windows 2000 - say's ot can't fimd the OS
Kernel. I did the backup, and have a Windows 98 partition
I can boot into (although it is very flakey - the reason I
installed W2K).

Does anyone know how to restore the system without using
Add/Remove Programs, which I have no way of getting to?

Thanks,

John M.

Hi John

You can actually uninstall SP4 without going to add/remove programs. First,
ensure that you have chosen to display hidden files and folders (in Folder
options). Than go to your System Directory (usually c:\winnt\) and look for
a folder called "$NtServicePackUninstall$". Once you have found it open in
and there open the "spuninst" Folder and open "spuninst.exe" to start the
uninstallation of SP4.
However, you will only find that Folder/File(s) when you chose to archive
(ie backup) your Files during SP4 Install.
To put it in a Nutshell, go here to do it:
C:\WINNT\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst and open spuninst.exe.

Hope this helps. Regards,

Fabio

Fabio,

I found the file just as John but the spuninst.exe won't
run in DOS mode - any more ideas
