I have mcafee virus program on a computer that wasn't uninstalled
correctly. The add/remove program don't work. Does someone know the
steps for me to manually remove the program and delete its entries
from the registry. Norton Antivirus won't allow me to install until
mcafee is removed.
Thanks,

Chris,
Check the McAfee website.
If you still have the McAfee program on a disk, reinstall it and then
do an uninstall.
Also, ckeck to see if there is an Uninstaller buried somewhere in
McAfee (options, directory, etc.)
Many in this NG don't like Norton or Norton products.
I run Win98 with an Athlon XP2100+ cpu.
I use some of them and they work fine for me. (Norton Anti-Virus,
Norton Disk Doctor, Norton Speed Disk and Norton Ghost).
I may try one of the other Anti-Virus programs when my subscription
for Norton runs out. I'm not sure.
I rarely ever have a virus sent to me or to my pc through the
Internet, so I really can't say how effective Norton is.
I would guess that those folks who are really 'careless' or don't
practice safe 'hex' are the ones who would have more experience with
contracting, catching, etc. viruses and therefore 'should' be able to
recommend the 'best' anti-virus program.
I check at some of the anti-virus 'reviews' on the Internet and Norton
and McAfee are usually right at or near the top of the list.
I also use ZA for a firewall and run the following free programs for
possible spyware preventions and detection and removal: AdAwareSE
Personal, SpyBot, and SpywareBlaster.
Once again, spyware rarely ever shows up on my machine (I believe that
SpywareBlaster is probably helping out a lot here)
PS: You might even check the Symantec website to see if they have any
suggestions.
Try emailing Norton for advice.
