Having an error on my stand alone Windows 2000 Pro. This
computer is not attached to any network and does not have
internet access.

When i logon to the station it comes up with the following
error.

"Manual policy mode / policy file cannot be found"

Anyone got any idea why this error is coming up?

I have search the knowledge base and technet, with no joy!

Many thanks

Martin

I don't know if you found an answer for this yet, but it sounds like a
system policy was edited at some point and set to manual with a specified
path and is in effect on the machine. Do the following steps to remove
that:

1. Start -> Run -> poledit
2. Under the File menu, click Open registry
3. Double-click Local Computer
4. Go down the following path:
Network\System Policies Update\Remote Update
5. Change the Update mode to Automatic and remove the other information in
the edit and check boxes.
6. Click OK.
7. Under the File menu, click Save and then close.
8. Restart the computer.
