Manual downloading for signatures ?...

I have a computer that is terribly stubborn about automatic updating. I
realize the root of the problem is the inability to run BITS. However, I am
content to manually download the regular Windows updates by manually
downloading the KB?????? files. Does Windows Defender have a spot where I can
manually download the signature updates? I tried searching for the KB915597
file but it does not exist at Microsoft Download centre.

I don't think that you'll find these update by using the KB number.

The KB number used is the same each time. That KB does exist, at least, but
the content is not very interesting.

I don't think they are going to touch the revision date of 915597 each time
they issue updates, so I'm not sure what a good way to get notification of
such update is, other than watching these groups, where someone is likely to
call them out it seems.

I'd concentrate on getting bits working.

There is a way to update WinDefend KB915597: instead of using WinUpd, open
WinDefend, click small down arrow next to Tools and '?' mark->About Windows
Defender, click Check for Updates. Wait for at least 3-5 minutes. When update
completed a small WinDefend icon shows green check mark in lower right-hand
corner of taskbar. The update is confirmed in events viewer-> check
Applications and Systems. Good luck

Correct--however, this mechanism won't work if AutoUpdate and the bits
service underlying it are not functional on your machine, or carrying the
updates, in a corporate lan.
