I have a JPEG, GIF or TIFF image which i need to 'ungroup' so that I can
manipulate each section of the image, the 'group' 'ungroup' options are
greyed out. (e.g picture of a man, need to remove his arms and a leg) Is this
possible? Or can anyone advise which file format i need to save the image in
to allow me to do this?

While PowerPoint has some limited cropping abilities, it cannot do what you
want because these images are not made up of individual pieces that can be
ungrouped. Your best bet is to use Picture Editing software (such as Adobe
PhotoShop) to edit your pictures.

What David said. But depending on the original program used to create these
images, you could try saving as WMF or EMF. These would be ungroupable IF the
original drawing is in vector format (ie, made up of objects) rather than raster
(made up of dots)
