cd4 isnt gpl content from what i know. that have allways been the case
from what i recall.

Yeah,

but without CD4 you cannot use DSL for connecting to the Internet.
Very Poor for a payless OS.

Since when?

The speedtouch-adsl rpm is on CD1.

Do you know where I can download CD4?

Best Regards,

Daniel Mandic

Just keep watching for the first 3 official on alt.os.linux.mandrake.
If you want 10.1 community #4 it seems to be hard to find.
http://iso.linuxquestions.org/distro.php?distro=3 says they have four ISOs
but the d/l page only has three.

The official is only avaible at the Mandrakestore and the number you
get depends on the membership status.

Myself I'm going to wait with 10.0 Official for a year or so. If it ain't
broke......

Rather unfair. Ignorance (as in being unfamiliar with a subject)
does not imply either.
Not unfair at all. To make an assertion about a subject about which
one is ignorant is stupid. Of course, that doesn't stop approximately
98% of all usenet posters from doing so.

Aha, so Version 10 is not finished.

I have installed it, but I couldn´t setup for a VPN connection without
CD4.

Is it necessary to install CD2 and CD3 to have Internet Connections
working.

I just have CD1 (Mandrake 10.0), till now.

Forgot I have X-No-Archive: Yes in my headers.

Do you want to d/l the mysterious Mandrake 10.0 fourth CD?

When you install it will ask you to insert the first 3 disks. So if it
needs something it should tell you.

System > Configuration > Configure Your Computer > you will be at
MCC (remember those three letters if you change something and can't logon
graphically) > Network & Internet > New Connection. Now you have 6 choices.
Just try something until it works.

Do you have all of your disks registered? Come to think of it CD#1 will do
that for you. Every disk that it will ask for is listed in theSoftware Media
Manager. I would install urpm for updates and other cool
stuff.
The biggest help I find is lurking the Mandrake group and/or Google >
advanced group search. *linux* for groups. Then your keywords.
HTH

If Gordon sees this he may elaborate further.

Sometimes I think the percentage is even higher :-)

Do you know where I can download CD4?

Best Regards,

IIRC, you have to buy support or the pro version or whatever to get it.
I found it on a warez site but that is very much OT here.

He is showing the best example... :-) but at least he left 2% for all
matters. So he could be 2% stupid and 98% a liar. Or Otherwise.

By the Way. Thank you Gordon.

I ll take a look a Linux and will like to install it with a bootloader
for some os´es more.

LILO is the best choice for a bootloader?

Aaah! A difficult one. LILO is a good choice as it's relatively easy to
get your head round. Especially if you are just starting with Linux.
Configuration is by a straight text file (/etc/lilo.conf) and there is
lots of documentation around for it. No changes you make are activated
until you actually run /sbin/lilo and lilo produces verbose output as it
goes through lilo.conf so it is easy to see if you have screwed up! (It
also hapens to be the one I'm most familiar with)

Grub (Grand Unified Boot Loader) is the more modern bootloader but is more
complex and can be more difficult to use if attempting to restore a
screwed up boot sector.

The best I've ever used is System Commander (and I've had it booting MSDOS
6.22/WFW 3.11, Mandrake, Red Hat, Win98, Solaris and Win2K on the same
box)

<http://www.v-com.com/product/System_Commander_Home.html>
"As a boot manager, Supports every PC-compatible OS. Automatic preparation
for adding OSes. User selectable graphics Installs from any Windows,
including Windows XP NTFS. Includes Partition Commander - Safe resize,
create, move & copy for Windows, Linux and DOS partitions. Undo
partitioning with exclusive BackStep technology."

But, it isn't freeware and it's not cheap either ($70). There are a number
of shareware boot managers but none come close to System Commander.

Freeware wise look at Gag ("The Graphical Boot Manager") especially if you
are looking at using it on a "test bed" machine where you want to play around
with different operating systems.
<http://gag.sourceforge.net/>

"Product description

GAG is a Boot Manager program. It's loaded when the computer is turned on
and allows you to choose the operating system you want to use.

Features :

- Allows boot of up to 9 different operating systems. - It can boot
operating systems installed in primary and extended partitions on any
available hard disk. - Can be installed from nearly all operating systems.
- GAG doesn't need its own partition. It installs itself in the first
track of the hard disk, wich is reserved for these kinds of programs. It
can also be instaled on a floppy disk, without using the hard disk. - It
has a timer to boot a default operating system (selectable by the user). -
The configuration menu can be protected with a password. - The program
works in graphic mode (needs a VGA or better graphic card), and has a lot
of icons. - Hides the primary partitions which allows the user to have
instaled more than one DOS and/or Windows in the same hard disk. - Allows
a password to be put on each operating system, denying access to
non-authorized people. Allows the boot manager text to be translated to
all languages. - Can exchange disk drives, allowing to boot from the
second, third... hard disk operating systems such as MS-DOS. - Has the
SafeBoot system, that allows to boot your hard disk even if GAG is
accidentally overwritten. Supports a great variety of keyboards (QWERTY,
AZERTY and QWERTZ keyboards). - Fully support for hard disks up to 4
terabytes (4096 gigabytes). - Full version and free software (distributed
under GPL licence, with source code)"

Hope that helps.

Gordon
