Mandatory Password-Enabled Account?

Hi, Windows XP Home edition with all security updates. As I am the only
person who uses this computer, I would like to turn it on and go to the
desktop, but it will not let me. After one of the security updates, it
forced me to add an account with a mandatory password in order to get to the
desktop. Account manager will NOT let the account work without a password.

Is this normal? How can I get around this please.

Thanks, Rick

Visit the Windows Update web site and download the available critical update
for .NET Framework. After installing it and rebooting, the Welcome Screen
will no longer appear if you do not have a password for your account.

The Welcome to Windows screen appears when you start Windows XP
after you install the .NET Framework 1.1

What is the ASP.NET Machine Account?

thanks, but that did not work. I updated to .NET Framework 2.0. When I try
to remove my password from my account I get the following error message:

How to Enable Automatic Logon in Windows

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type: control userpasswords2 , and then click OK.
3. In the dialog box that appears, uncheck the "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer" check box, and then click OK.

Thank you very, very much Carey. That's why you work for Microsoft and I
don't. It works great now!
