Managing the connection of printers and shares centrally

The environment: XP Client and 2000 server. I don't want
to visit every client to set up printer and networked
disk connections. Is it possible to do this without using
logon scripts? If no, what command do I have to use to
connect printers (without mapping them to LPT1 etc. net
use lpt1: \\....)
